The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer role is part of the client’s Infrastructure Engineering and Cloud Platform Team. The Cloud Platform team’s mandate is to provide tools and capabilities to the organization which allow easy, friction free adoption of cloud-based technologies, thereby helping to accelerate and elevate our partners on the cloud journey.

 

A day in the life

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is a key role facilitating the organization’s cloud transformation journey.  The organization is operating primarily with AWS and Azure. The individual in this role will be collaborating with product managers, solution architects and application engineers to design and engineer solutions that enable application engineer agility to delivery capabilities that drive business value.

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will provide technical expertise to App Teams to facilitate deployment of containerized applications using Kubernetes, Rancher, and AWS.  This individual will play a critical role engineering new security governance standards for managing containers, pods, and K8s networking.  Additionally, the cloud engineer will design and engineer technologies and services that enable application developers to increase productivity and have confidence their applications are running on a secure backbone. Examples of services to be integrated and continuously improved are: logging, monitoring and alerting, secrets management, code repository, and infrastructure as code.

 

  • Contribute to the creation of Cloud Platform Shared Services product roadmap, inclusive of Containerization, Logging, Monitoring, Alerting, Secrets Management, Artifactory
  • Responsible and accountable for continuous service improvements, managing service delivery against service levels, and guiding the adoption of standard enterprise/infrastructure technologies and processes across the client’s technology groups.
  • Design and engineer service delivery and integration of Kubernetes Enterprise Platform. Offer guidance in techniques, best practices and training to application team including bulk application transfers into the cloud, containerization of applications, and deployment of greenfield / brownfield applications to cloud environments,
  • Design, implement, maintain live service monitoring framework to enable the monitoring of key performance indicators from source to target
  • Design and engineer the technical approach, architecture and integration of Hashicorp Vault Enterprise workflows with Kubernetes, Logging, Monitoring and Alerting in the client’s enterprise cloud platform services
  • Design and engineer with the application engineer in mind, making adoption easy.
  • Responsible and accountable for continuous service improvements, managing service delivery against service levels, and guiding the adoption of standard enterprise/infrastructure technologies and processes across the client’s technology groups.
  • Identify and anticipate new tools and features which can be leveraged to successfully meet the strategic needs of the company.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent technical work experience
  • 5+ years designing, executing, and supporting cloud-based solutions
  • 2+ years Kubernetes experience
  • 2+ years building and managing cloud monitoring infrastructure, such as Grafana, Prometheus, and Splunk
  • 2+ years Vault Enterprise experience
  • Able to design metrics, data collection and extraction methods that enable engineers & business to focus on relevant metrics.
  • Experience using IaC to manage cloud resources
  • Ability to demo cloud platform technology advances to application teams.
  • Comprehensive experience with at least one major cloud service provider (AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP, Alibaba Cloud)
  • Strong, proactive communication skills (written and verbal) to properly articulate complex cloud reports to management and other IT development partners
  • Ability to create clearly defined technical documentation (ex: Technical requirements, design documentation, Architectural review materials, technology guidelines and best practices)
